Ok.. I am taking this one with a little pinch of salt, but it was in fact confirmed by none other than Tom Holland himself…
Roll back a few years to when Iron Man 2 was released. During the finale Stark saves a little boy wearing a plastic Iron Man mask.
At the time there was the suggestion that this kid was non other than a young Peter Parker. Now, given the 6 year difference from when the films were released, the age of the boy in the above screenshot and the fact that in Homecoming he is to be around 15 years old the timeline fits well.
The bit that all made it fall through as wild speculation at the time was the fact that Sony were in the early stages of producing the Amazing Spider-man movies with Andrew Garfield so there looked to be no way they could have got him in here this early, could they?
Well, roll on to today where Tom Holland confirmed this stating “It is Peter Parker. I can confirm that, that is Peter Parker. I can confirm that as of today. I literally had a conversation with Kevin Feige only 20 minutes ago. Maybe I’ve just done a big, old spoiler, but it’s out there now. It’s cool. I like the idea that Peter Parker has been in the universe since the beginning.”
No…. Friggin…. Way.
Either the best piece of foreshadowing ever from Feige and the team at Marvel – who knows, maybe the deal that eventually brought Spidey into the MCU was beginning to be negotiated as far back as then.
Still, pretty cool.. I love it when a fan theory comes true… (#claganebowl better happen!)
