So apparently Suicide Squad 2 has found its new director. This project has faced a number of problems already with director issues and the much maligned interference from Warner Bros lingering in the background.
Gavin O’Connor, who’s probably best known for directing The Accountant starring Ben Affleck, Anna Kendrick and J.K. Simmons. He also directed and has a writing credit on the 2011 film Warrior, with Joel Edgerton and Tom Hardy. O’Connor has also directed Tumbleweeds, Pride and Glory and Jane Got a Gun, starring Natalie Portman, Joel Edgerton and Ewan McGregor.
As no stranger to directing some big names, O’Connor seems like he’d be a good choice to follow up the first film, which finds some DCEU villains taking on a mission for the government. Ayer’s entry didn’t find a lot of love, but it was a success at the box office. I personally didn’t mind the film, though like a certain other DCEU entry, I admit that it does have its flaws.
Some sources are also reporting that O’Connor will work the script for the new movie as well as direct it. The film will likely reunite the likes of Margot Robbie, Will Smith and more but as yet there is no casting news.
So how do you feel about this news? Is he the right choice? Will you watch the new film? What characters would you like to see return and which new ones would you like to see? Or has the damage already been done?
