It’s Geeksmas day 7 and I was going to share some casting news but this is bigger…much bigger.

It has long been rumored that the final season Game of Thrones won’t premiere in 2018 and it would be the first time that the series hasn’t premiered a new season in successive years since it’s launch. Speaking with Variety, star Sophie Turner (Sansa Stark) confirmed fans’ worst fears, revealing the series wouldn’t be back until 2019.

The actress also spoke about her character’s place in the final six episodes of the series: “It’s going to be tricky for her, because at the end of last season, she felt that she had everything set up. She had her family back together. They were in control of the North again. This season, there’s a new threat, and all of a sudden she finds herself somewhat back in the deep end. And without Littlefinger, it’s a test for her of whether she can get through it. It’s a big challenge for her, without this master manipulator having her back. This season is more a passionate fight for her than a political, manipulative kind of fight.”

Some good news is that when Game of Thrones does return in 2019 it was previously confirmed that each episode will be feature-length.

Game of Thrones is based on the novel series “A Song of Ice and Fire” by George R.R. Martin. In Season 6, the TV series moved past the point where the books have stalled, though many plot points have been dropped and some stories have been “beyond the books” for a while.

Returning series regulars will include Peter Dinklage (Tyrion Lannister), Nikolaj Coster-Waldau (Jaime Lannister), Kit Harington (Jon Snow), Lena Headey (Cersei Lannister), Sophie Turner(Sansa Stark), Maisie Williams (Arya Stark), Alfie Allen (Theon Greyjoy), John Bradley (Samwell Tarly), Gwendoline Christie (Brienne of Tarth), Liam Cunningham (Davos Seaworth),  Iain Glen (Jorah Mormont), Isaac Hempstead Wright (Bran Stark),  Rory McCann (Sandor “The Hound” Clegane) and Richard Dormer (Beric Dondarrion).

What are your predictions for the final season? Who will survive? Who will be the first to die? Will Cersei send her forces to attack her enemies? Is Ser Pounce Azor Ahai? Let us know!

And now my watch begins.
