We’re into the final stretch of Geeksmas! For day 20 we have a little bit of Lord of the Rings news!
A little earlier this year, Amazon secured the rights to a TV series set in the Lord of the Rings universe and instantly the Internet was ablaze with talk. When will it be set? Who will be in it? Will any of the cast return? It has been confirmed that the series will take place between the Hobbit and Lord of the Rings, so that did give us quite a bit to go on, while actually giving us nothing!
Earlier this week, Graham Norton took advantage of having Sir Ian McKellen on his BBC Radio 2 show to ask him some questions, including if it was going to be annoying for him to have another Gandalf around.
“What do you mean, another Gandalf?” The Academy Award-nominated star responded. “I haven’t said yes because I haven’t been asked. But are you suggesting that someone else is going to play it? Gandalf is over 7000 years old, so I’m not too old.”
Hope is kindled!
Amazon’s TV series won’t be a re-adaptation of J.R.R. Tolkien’s LOTR novels, but will instead focus on several “unexplored stories” from Middle-Earth. Whether or not Gandalf will play a part in the series remains to be seen, but it’s good to know Ian McKellen is down to return if needed.
Are you excited for this series? How would you feel about Gandalf returning? What stories do you think they’ll cover? Let us know what you think!
