After the huge success of the Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy last year, many people (myself included) have been screaming for a Spyro remaster. Well now I’m just screaming because I’m so happy!
The company today announced Spyro: Reignited Trilogy, which features fully updated versions of the original three Spyro games: Spyro the Dragon (1998), Spyro 2: Gateway to Glimmer (1999), and Spyro: Year of the Dragon(2000).
All of the levels are “mapped faithfully,” Activision says. As for new additions, Activision has said there are “enhanced reward sequences,” better-looking environments, updated controls, new lighting effects, and “recreated” cinematics. Additionally, the characters have been “creatively re-imagined with additional flair.” The game will also have a “re-imagining” of Stewart Copeland’s original soundtracks.
Voice actor Tom Kenny, who originally voiced Spyro in Spyro 2 and Year of the Dragon, is coming back to voice the dragon yet again. Kenny is probably best known as the voice of SpongeBob Squarepants.
To celebrate this announcement, Gamers in North America (don’t forget the rest of us !) can now enter a certain famous video game code “↑ ↑ ↓ ↓ ← → ← → Square” on the Crash Bandicoot 3: Warped title screen to queue up the Reignited trailer (up top, for your convenience).
Reignited is set for release on September 21st and I, for one, am incredibly excited! I absolutely loved these games growing up! Are you excited for this release or are you a negative Nancy, who’s sick of seeing remasters and remakes?
