For a while now there’s been a lot of talk about a new Alien game and around the Video Game Awards, rumours were swirling about a new game called Alien: Blackout. Well, now it’s official!
There had been rumours that it was to be a squad-based shooter of some sort. So, we have good news; it’s not. Fancy some more good news? Amanda Ripley is back! But slightly less good news: it’s a mobile game.
Now, mobile games aren’t entirely terrible and they are certainly on the rise but it does suck a bit that this isn’t a “proper” follow up to the rather awesome Alien Isolation.
Alien: Blackout is described as a survival horror mobile game that has you explore a Weyland-Yutani space station while avoiding xenomorphs. It’ll be released on iOS and Android and was developed by FoxNext Games, D3 Go! and Rival Games, as reported by Variety.
The official blurb:
“The terror of Alien is brought to life in ‘Alien: Blackout.’ Try to stay alive while trapped aboard a crippled Weyland-Yutani space station carrying a deadly Xenomorph as it tirelessly hunts you and the crew. Outsmart the perfect hunter by making perilous choices. Players must rely on the damaged controls of the space station or risk sacrificing crew members to avoid deadly contact, permanently altering the outcome of the game.
“Survive seven fear-inducing levels by remotely guiding Amanda Ripley’s crew through increasingly challenging tasks using only the station’s emergency systems. The uncertainty and unpredictability of both the alien and her crew can impose total defeat for Amanda and the entire station.”
Using the tools at your disposal including a map, the motion tracker and probably whatever else you can lay your hands on, you’re tasked with getting yourself and your crew to safety before the power supply runs out.
Alien: Blackout will release on January 24th, so not long to wait!
Will you be giving this a go? Or is it a miss? I’ll be playing it, I need me my Alien fix!
